In recent times, gold has been facing stiff competition from platinum, when it comes to making wedding bands. However, not everyone can afford platinum as its rarity makes it more highly priced than gold. The most popular – and more expensive option when it comes to gold is the 75% pure 18k gold.

However, most couples commonly opt for 14k gold wedding bands. There are various grades of platinum, with the most expensive – 950 PT containing 95% platinum and 5% of a different metal such as iridium or ruthenium. You should note that the higher platinum percentage an alloy contains, the higher the cost of your wedding band will be.
